3cupswhite bread flour or 2 1/2 cups white bread flour and 1/2 cup whole wheat
3tablespoonsolive oil
1teaspoonsalt
1tablespoonrosemaryfennel or anise seed
Instructions
Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Put all the ingredients in a food processor or mixer and blend them until the dough no longer adheres to the sides of the bowl. Remove the dough from the processor or blender and knead it until it is smooth. Let it raise covered for 30-60 minutes in a warm place.
Dust a counter top with flour and place the dough on it. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a 5/8" log. Dust with flour as needed to keep from sticking. Then tie each log into a knot. Flatten out the tail piece and cut slits to make tail feathers. Pinch the head and shape like a dove and beak. Cut a slit through the location of the eyes, then place a peppercorn in each side to replicated eyes.
Cover a baking pan with parchment paper. Spray with Pam or vegetable spray. Dust with flour and place each dove on the baking pan equidistance apart. Spray the doves with Pam and cover with a dish towel. Let them raise another 30 minutes. Preheat oven at 390 degrees.
Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cover with a dish towel to keep them moist.
